Amazon.com Product Description Thanks to a new, long-lasting LED light engine, the full HD (1920 x 1080p) picture of the HL-T5689S DLP HDTV will last as long as the set. An ultra-thin, piano-black bezel around the 56" screen lets you enjoy more screen and less frame. Its slim depth, light weight and hidden speaker system allow the set to fit where others won't. Samsung Cinema Smooth light engine delivers the widest range of brilliant colors, while a 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio renders every picture in perfect detail, from the darkest darks to brightest whites, and every tone in between. SRS TruSurround XT delivers sound that is clear and full. Enjoy watching two shows at the same time using the one-tuner Picture-in-Picture (PIP) feature. Three HDMI inputs in version 1.3 render your digital movies, photos and more with greater color depth, while a USB 2.0 port and other inputs allow full connectivity. The HLT generation of Samsung DLP HDTVs are capable of displaying future 3D games, movies, and other programming via 3D compatible glasses and hardware.
LED (Light Emitting Diode) for modern color realization Samsung's new LED light engine replaces the arc lamp & color wheel design of previous DLP HDTVs, and realizes beautiful color. LED will last the life of the TV. Samsung LED DLP TVs eliminate the need to replace the consumable lamps every few years, and thus have less impact on the environment and on one’s wallet. Samsung's LED light engine makes possible an Ultra-Wide Color Gamut that exceeds the NTSC defined color space spec for richer color than you've seen before on TV. Samsung DLP HDTVs with an LED engine are more energy efficient than similar sized flat panel displays, and the lack of a moving color whell in the design means they perform with less noise than any previous DLP HDTV design.
10,000:1 contrast ratio
Two of the most important factors in overall picture quality contrast and brightness achieve new heights by capturing blacker blacks and crisper whites.
Cinema Smooth Light Engine
Samsung Cinema Smooth light engine is the culmination of years of industry-leading research and development. It releases the maximum power of the new generation of DMD microdisplays for the most film-like picture. It creates an image with no visible pixel structure and accurate shading and better low-light detail.
My Color Control
You can get the pink tones, the green of the grass and the blue of the sky just the way you like, without affecting the other colors on the screen. The three major colors can be adjusted to perfectly fit your taste. Self expression meets display perfection.
Audio Wattage
Get quality sound aided by 10W x 2 audio output. An auto volume leveler keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing to minimize static sound bursts.
Next Generation DLP Chips from Texas Instruments
DLP TV by Samsung employs a Texas Instrument DLP chip that is comprised of millions of microscopic mirrors. The DLP chip is faster than any HDTV technology, with the mirrors switching on & off 15,000 times a second to deliver a razor-sharp picture for fast moving images. When combined with Samsung new Cinema Smooth light engine, the result is a crisp, bright picture with deep, rich colors that's closer to film.
Samsung DNle - Digital Natural Image engine
Samsung exclusive Digital Natural Image engine makes the sharpest and clearest images possible, regardless of the profile of input signals. Five image processors and a six-times density enhancer ensure the best picture from any source. DNle guarantees the truest colors and highest contrast.
SRS TruSurround XT
Samsung HDTVs are equipped with the best that technology can offer in sound quality. Even when viewing regular broadcasts, our 2 speaker surround sound makes you feel as if the theatre has been brought to your living room.
Parental Control
Samsung HDTVs come equipped with a V-Chip which enables parental control for channel and program blocking for all TV programs that incorporate the rating code signal.
PC Compatible
A Samsung HDTV using DLP technology can also function as a high quality WUXGA PC monitor
New Slim Depth
With it’s new slimmer design, your options on where to place your Samsung DLP HDTV have become much broader.
3 HDMI inputs
Three HDMI inputs address both pure digital audio and video performance and simplifies connections from the new generation set-top boxes and DVD players by reducing cable connections to one cable and plug. 1080p format is accepted.

Pros:
Image is amazing. Bright, sharp, colors are nicely saturated when appropriate and subtle in other scenes. Onscreen menus are easy to use. Built-in QAM can handle unscrambled digital cable [i.e. if your cable company provides unscrambled local HD (which many do), you can just plug the coax in and voila!]. Excellent set of connections, and plenty of 'em, that are easy to access.
Oh, and did I mention that the picture is AMAZING?
Cons:
1. It is a rear-projection system, which means that the viewing angle isn't as good as plasma or front projecton. Horizontal viewing angle is pretty good due to the screen, but vertical viewing is not that great. If all audience members are at about the same height it won't be a problem -- but if you have people who like to stretch out on the floor or stand/exercise while viewing it might be a real concern.
2. There are 2 "zoom" modes for watching 4:3 programs. However, some stations air 16:9 stuff letterboxed into 4:3. It would be really nice if one of the zoom modes scaled things *just right* so that letterboxed 4:3 content filled the screen, but neither does. [Zoom1 is close, but you still crop top/bottom a bit]
Overall it's a great TV.

This TV is worth every penny I paid for it and the price was right. I had it shipped in 2 days I was very impressed. Blu-ray pumped into this set is awesome. This Samsung replaced an older Samsung DLP with a projector bulb. it is nice to have almost instant on operation. The color's are true to life rich and vibrant.

This was our first large TV set. We chose the digital projection technology because you get the picture of projection without the occasional exploding bulbs you get in the other projection units.
The TV lives up to hype, as when we first plugged it in to Cable without even the Cable box, it found all the channels and we could see a lot of HD content readily available.
The unit starts quickly, changes channels quickly, and has great color. It does a pretty good job of upsampling low resolution channels and input.
We are very pleased with this TV, and the technology level, the HDMI is version 1.3 which will give you some better throughput with some equipment, and also future proof your purchase a bit.
We also have hooked up a Playstation 3 to it, and it just works great!

WOW! What a picture right out of the box. It exceeded our expectations for digital cable output and is outstanding on HD. We thought our Hitachi Ultravision had a great picture but this unit has a more vibrant picture. We looked at the plasma and LCD HDTVs but concluded this was the best picture for the money. We are totally satisfied.
